The Master of Wine Peter McCombie was in charge of directing the tasting that the Monastrell Association held on Monday, May 22, at the prestigious 67Pall Mall club in London. The attendees had the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the variety through the tasting of 8 Monastrell wines
40 renowned sommeliers and journalists from the most influential gastronomic media in the British capital attended the Monastrell tasting, presented by Esther González de Paz, as a representative of the Association, who introduced Monastrell Spain and the five Designations of Origin that form it: DO Almansa , DO Alicante, DO Bullas, DO Jumilla and DO Yecla, located in the southeast of Spain and which have in common the cultivation of the Monastrell variety, “the grape of the sun”.
Among the purpose of the Association, González de Paz, pointed out “to increase knowledge of the Monastrell variety, which is already present in the UK market” and pointed out “the high quality and competitiveness of Monastrell wines”, she highlighted “it’s easy to drink these wines, very pleasant, that invites you to continue tasting”.
MW Peter McCombie highlighted the recognition that Monastrell has been gaining in recent years. He highlighted the adaptability of this variety to the climate, the richness of the color and its versatility to produce different types of wines as the main characteristics of this variety.
The attendees were fascinated by the variety that Monastrell offers, its character, elegance and structure. Sommelier and the media showed their interest in continuing to learn and invite their followers on social networks to try Monastrell Spain.
